Manchester United’s next manager has been named by AI with the man in question having already gained a ringing endorsement from Jurgen Klopp

The head coach job at Manchester United has been something of a poisoned chalice since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. The Red Devils have gone through 11 managers, including caretaker and interim posts, since 2013 without a Premier League or Champions League title even coming close to an Old Trafford return.

With the sacking of Ruben Amorim, the English giants are pressing restart (again) on their project to success but it’s one that must begin with the appointment of a permanent head coach.

There have been several individuals linked with the job, such as Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel but there’s only one man who fits the criteria perfectly. Well, according to AI that is.

We asked AI for their recommendation on who should follow in Amorim’s footsteps in their attempt to awaken the sleeping giants and the answer it spat out was Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Putting aside AI for a second, the 38-year-old has already earned high praise from his compatriot Jurgen Klopp who once described him as a “big coaching talent”. It was before the two managers were to go toe-to-toe in 2017 with Klopp’s Liverpool taking on Nagelsmann’s Hoffenheim in the Champions League playoffs.

Just 29 years old at the time, Nagelsmann was tipped for big things by Klopp who said: “I’m really happy for my friend and agent because I’m the old horse in the stable and there’s a young horse already!

“He’s a big, big coaching talent. We don’t know each other very well but I’ve followed his way because I like good football. He’s not the only one but he’s a good example of a lot of really good young managers in Germany.

Returning to AI’s explanation of why Nagelsmann ranks top of any other managerial candidate for United, his experience at another football giant in Bayern Munich means he’s equipped to deal with big egos and expectations.

However, his contract with Germany which lasts until UEFA Euro 2028 could prove to be a sticking point. Nagelsmann previously led Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig and it was his time with the former that illustrated his ability to build a team.

Hoffenheim were 17th in the Bundesliga at the time of his appointment in February 2016 but avoided relegation under the German who only a year later clinched Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history.

Given United’s current circumstances, they are certainly in need of a manager who can, with time, create a team capable of securing European football and flourishing in it, as proven with his run to the Champions League semi-finals with Leipzig.

Amorim’s stubbornness with his three at the back formation was a continuous sticking point throughout his 14-month run at Old Trafford but Nagelsmann won’t be plagued by the same issue because of his tactical flexibility, according to AI.

Capable of setting up teams that can play a back three or four, the German will be able to adapt to the players he has rather than exposing his squad by playing a system they’re not equipped to succeed in.

Whether United’s hierarchy decide to target Nagelsmann remains to be seen but the German seems like the perfect option to rejuvenate the club from yet another managerial departure. Once again, according to AI.
