Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain despite resolving his dispute with manager Arne Slot
Mohamed Salah is back from AFCON duty, but speculation about his future at Liverpool continues to circulate. Earlier this season, the Egyptian star’s time with the Reds seemed uncertain after a public spat with Arne Slot, who dropped him from Liverpool’s starting line-up.
However, the Dutch manager has confirmed that they’ve made peace, which could alter the winger’s future prospects.
Yet, as Slot’s Premier League results continue to disappoint, the club’s top brass might be open to offers for some of its seasoned players, including Salah.
For now, Slot remains at the helm, and Salah is back in the matchday squad. But as we’ve seen before, things can change quickly – so what does the future hold for one of Anfield’s recent heroes?

January move
Salah’s future hung in the balance after his disagreement with Slot. He accused the club of “throwing him under the bus” after being left out of the starting eleven for three consecutive matches.
The Egyptian also revealed that his relationship with the manager had deteriorated, leading to his exclusion from Liverpool’s squad for the match against Inter Milan.

The situation was swiftly addressed, with Slot asserting there was “no issue to resolve.” When questioned about Salah, the manager stated: “For me, he’s now the same as any other player.”
Probed further on a potential departure from the club this month, Slot added: “I think you already know the answer to that.” So, a January transfer seems unlikely, but in football, nothing can be completely ruled out.
Saudi transfer in the summer
If Salah decides against staying at Liverpool, a move to Saudi Arabia appears to be the most probable alternative. In 2023, the Reds turned down a hefty £150million offer for the winger from Al-Ittihad, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the club maintains its interest.
In December 2025, Sky Sports reported that the possibility of Salah joining the Saudi Pro League hadn’t been ruled out, with Al Hilal also previously showing interest.
However, it’s believed that SPL teams would require a clear signal from the player indicating his desire to move before submitting a bid.
Salah looked poised to head to Saudi Arabia last summer before signing a contract extension in April of the previous year, keeping him at the club until 2027. SPL clubs may wish to challenge Liverpool’s determination before the season concludes, but it’s increasingly likely that any move will take place before the 2026/27 campaign.
Fulfils contract
At present, Salah is tied to Liverpool until the summer of 2027, with the winger reportedly pocketing around £350,000 a week. By the time this contract expires, Salah will be approaching 35 and may be contemplating retirement.
The fans’ evident affection and admiration for the Egyptian could persuade him to see out his contract – and potentially the remainder of his career – with the club. However, a more lucrative offer and a change of environment could also be on the cards.
Sack Arne Slot
Premier League fans might draw parallels with the situation involving Kobbie Mainoo and Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. Under Amorim’s management, the academy prodigy had been restricted to less than 180 minutes all season, without a single league start.
However, since interim manager Michael Carrick took the reins, Mainoo has started both matches and played the full 90 minutes in each. He has secured two victories and covered more ground on the pitch than any other player in wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Could Salah find himself in a similar situation under Slot if he is dismissed before the season’s end? Last season, the winger clocked up 4,501 minutes and netted 34 goals, providing 23 assists to help Liverpool clinch the Premier League title.
This season, Salah has registered five goals and five assists across 1,768 minutes on the pitch. Could a different manager reignite the scoring ability he’s showcased consistently for the Reds over several campaigns? At present, there’s nothing to suggest Slot is anywhere near losing his position, and he continues in charge.
Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 more.
