Inter Milan have opened talks over a potential loan deal for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones before the January transfer deadline that depends on Davide Frattesi joining Nottingham Forest

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is being touted for a potential exit from Anfield as the January transfer window enters its final days. Whilst there are always rumours about numerous incoming signings, the latest speculation suggests a departure could be on the cards before Monday’s deadline.

Arne Slot‘s men currently sit sixth in the Premier League standings and are set to host Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday evening. Slot will be keen to have Jones available for selection against the Magpies.

The midfielder sat out the midweek Champions League victory over Qarabag through illness. Now, there seems to be a genuine chance that Jones could depart Liverpool before the window slams shut.

Reports claim Inter Milan have opened talks with Liverpool over a deal to bring Jones to Italy before Monday’s cut-off point. The Serie A heavyweights are apparently considering a loan arrangement for Jones that would last until the season’s conclusion, with an option to make the switch permanent this summer.

The speculation indicates that any move for Jones might hinge on Inter’s Davide Frattesi departing the San Siro to join Nottingham Forest. Frattesi is said to be edging closer to sealing a move to Forest, which would subsequently enable the Italian outfit to push ahead with their pursuit of Jones as his replacement.

Jones has featured 29 times for Liverpool this campaign in all competitions. However, he has only been handed 10 Premier League starts and found himself relegated to the substitutes’ bench for last weekend’s loss at Bournemouth.

With Monday’s deadline looming, Slot spoke about whether Liverpool might bring in new faces over the next few days, but the manager kept his cards close to his chest. Slot said: “You promise me you’re not going to ask me post-match as well?

“Yeah, I think you know the answer The answer is if we think we’ve addressed a player that can help us and think it’s possible, then we will do so.

“But those are conversations that take place. Not far away from here, by the way, but not in this room.”

When pressed further on whether his response suggested a deal was improbable, Slot responded: “Why is it unlikely? Okay, that’s a smart way of asking it. I think the answer I gave. It’s up to you whether that means it’s unlikely or likely.”
