Arsenal are set to face Brentford in the Premier League on Thursday night

Arsenal are preparing to face Brentford during another crucial week in the Premier League title race. The Gunners will have the benefit of already knowing how their rivals fared in midweek when taking to the pitch against the Bees on Thursday.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently have a six-point lead at the top of the table, though were denied an even greater advantage by Manchester City’s dramatic win over Liverpool at the weekend. Arsenal will battle a Brentford side aiming to derail the club’s title charge as Keith Andrews’ team continue their quest for a European spot.

While the Gunners aim to end their wait for silverware, there has already been plenty of speculation about how the club will choose to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window. Here is a look at some of the latest headlines surrounding the club.

Ethan Nwaneri issue

Ethan Nwaneri made a dream start to his loan spell at Marseille but his fortunes have quickly unravelled after being substituted at half-time during the club’s 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. The 18-year-old agreed to join the French side as he sought regular minutes but has been replaced at the interval in the team’s last two games.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi explained that the decision had been made to protect Nwaneri. However, L’Equipe reports that the atmosphere within the Marseille squad has deteriorated over recent months.

It is claimed that the players have taken issue with their strict working conditions and are confused by some of De Zerbi’s decisions. These leaks to French media suggest that Nwaneri has joined the club at an inopportune time.

RMC Sport states that De Zerbi is questioning his own contribution to the disconnect. Meanwhile, Nwaneri will be focused on learning from the problems he has faced at his parent club as he aims to prove himself away from Arsenal.

Arsenal schedule transfer talks

Fellow Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira is set to be the subject of talks regarding his future. The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Hamburg and has played a starring role for the newly-promoted Bundesliga side, scoring twice and providing four assists in 15 matches.

Vieira will have a year left on his Arsenal deal at the end of the season after spending the last two seasons away from the club following an earlier spell with Porto. His loan move to Hamburg included a buy option of around £17million.

Despite the clause being agreed, Bild reports that the German club will look to re-negotiate the fee when the two clubs meet for talks later in the year. The negotiations have been scheduled for April or May, when a decision on a permanent move could be made.

It is claimed that Hamburg will struggle to meet the buy clause, particularly as the club are only five points above the relegation spots. However, the possibility of the fee being changed during the transfer talks has not been ruled out.
