Fenerbahce have agreed a deal to sign Sofyan Amrabat, who spent last season on loan at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is seeking reinforcements having arrived at the Turkish club earlier this year and has gone after the Moroccan. An exact figure for the deal is yet to be disclosed, but reports in Turkey claim the Super Lig outfit are due to spend €13m to land the midfielder.

The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his contract with Fiorentina, who were hoping to sell before the transfer window closed. A return to Old Trafford, this time on a permanent basis, had been discussed but Fenerbahce have moved first and look to have won the race.

Amrabat had started in both of the the Italian outfit’s first two Serie A matches of the season, but will now be moved on, as per Sports Digitale.

Man Utd transfer news: Loan deal agreed as United chiefs debate deadline move

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag had worked with Amrabat before moving to Old Trafford and signed him on loan after his impressive showings at the World Cup in Qatar, where he captained Morocco to an unlikely semi-final. That led to a clamour for his signature, which United won.

They signed him on loan, with the option of a permanent deal. Amrabat though struggled for injuries and didn’t make the desired impact as the Manchester outfit had one of their more forgettable seasons. He showcased his quality in the final games of the season, but it wasn’t enough to tempt those at Old Trafford.

Amrabat admitted after the final that he was keen to stay at United, telling Ziggo Sport: “Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option.

Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his squad at Fenerbahce

“Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United it needs to be much better, and also for me personally. I have always remained calm and trained very hard. Ultimately, that patience has been rewarded.”

United’s stalling though left the door open for Mourinho, who has bought in the likes of Caglar Soyuncu and Allan Saint-Maximim, since moving to Istanbul. The Special One has also been reunited with another former United player in Fred, whom he signed back in 2018.

Those at Old Trafford have since struck a deal for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte – who has been their top summer target in that area.
