Ethan Hawke Makes Rare Comments About Uma Thurman Breakup

Ethan—who shares kids Maya Hawke, 27, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke, 23, with Uma, as well as Clementine Jane Hawke, 17, and Indiana Hawke, 14, with wife Ryan Shawhughes Hawke—has only shared glimpses into his divorce from the Kill Bill actress over the years.

He previously recalled navigating their 2003 separation, two years before their divorce was finalized, after earning his Oscar nomination for Training Day. 

“It was the best moment of my career,” he told GQ in 2018. “Like, ‘Maybe, maybe, you could be commercially viable.’ But I got divorced and my personal life fell apart.”

“When you’re depressed, it’s really easy to see everything that is fake about other people and life,” he continued. “I just started seeing all that. How phony celebrity was, how phony everything is.”
