Cueta’s La Liga home game against Almeria was abandoned on Sunday afternoon following a serious medical emergency that led to a fan collapsing and tragically dying
A game in Spain’s second-tier was abandoned on Sunday after a fan collapsed in the stadium and died. Cueta and Almeria were going head-to-head in La Liga 2 when a supporter was taken ill in the 18th minute.
Red Cross Paramedics rushed in to help and provide treatment for around 10 minutes. That included the emergency services giving CPR to the fan in question.
The man, 73, was carried out of the Alfonso Murube Stadium on a stretcher and taken to hospital. The match continued with Almeria’s Adri Embarba levelling after Kuki Zalazar put Cueta in front.
However, it was confirmed at half-time that the fan had died. Local media named him as a former chief of police, Manolo Carreto.

Talks between the two clubs and officials took place at the interval. And it was decided that the referee would call the game off.
The news was presented to supporters through the PA system. Ceuta tweeted on Sunday afternoon: “We deeply regret the passing of one of our fans during the course of the match against UD Almeria.
“We send all our support and affection to the family and friends of the deceased. Rest in peace.”
Almeria added: “UD Almeria deeply regrets the death and sends its most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends. Rest in peace.”
La Liga posted: “The match between @ADCeuta_FC and @U_D_Almeria has been suspended due to the tragic death of a fan at the Alfonso Murube stadium.
“LaLiga extends its condolences to his family, friends, and the entire AD Ceuta fanbase. The new date will be announced shortly.”
It has been reported that November 26 is a possibility if other fixtures can be moved.
