Liverpool’s next move in Marc Guehi race emerges as transfer plans change
Liverpool saw a deadline day move for Marc Guehi collapse in the summer transfer window but are thought to be planning a new move for the Crystal Palace defender in January
Crystal Palace believe Liverpool are the only team likely to make a move for Marc Guehi in January with the rest of the defender’s suitors expected to bide their time until he is available on a free transfer.
The Eagles captain saw a move to Anfield collapse in the final hours of the summer transfer window, though Liverpool have always been expected to rekindle their interest in the 25-year-old. But other suitors have emerged for Guehi in recent weeks given he could be available for nothing when his contract expires in 2026.
Some of Europe’s elite are among those who have been linked with Guehi, further complicating matters. And that, plus Liverpool’s need for defensive reinforcements, could force them to make their move before next summer.

A new report from Sky Sports claims that Palace feel that, as things stand, only Liverpool are likely to make an approach for Guehi once the transfer window reopens in January, which would give the south London outfit one last chance to cash in the former Chelsea man.
Furthermore, those at Selhurst Park believe that Guehi’s other admirers from around Europe are only interested in biding their time until the summer.
That could hand Liverpool the upper-hand when it comes to getting a deal for Guehi over the line. The Premier League champions light on defensive options after their summer signing, Giovanni Leoni, suffered an ACL injury which will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.
Despite spending over £400million in the summer, Liverpool have also been linked with a swoop for Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.
The in-demand Ghana attacker has been one of the Premier League’s top performers this season and it has now emerged a release clause worth £65m will become active in the first two weeks of the winter window.
Darren Bent has likened the “unstoppable” former Bristol City hotshot to Gareth Bale and feels he would be tempted by the chance to join the Reds. He told talkSPORT: “I think he [Semenyo] would go to Liverpool. I think he can get into any top, top squad.
“You’re still going to get more than enough minutes but it depends on his ambition. His ambition might be: ‘Get me to Manchester City, I’m better than Doku,’ that might be his mindset.”
