Steve Smith’s ex-gymnast wife and incredible £7m property empire

The Australian cricket star is looking to lead his side to glory in The Ashes but already has lots to keep him busy away from the pitch

Australian cricket star Steve Smith will be concentrating on The Ashes in the coming weeks. However, the 36-year-old will also be monitoring his remarkable property empire.

Smith owns an incredible eight homes together with his wife Dani Willis, who works as an interior designer and a lawyer, as well as being a Pilates instructor and former international gymnast.

The pair wed in 2018 following his proposal at the top of the Rockefeller Center in New York. They currently own properties across multiple Australian regions, whilst also owning their own home in the Big Apple.

As per CoreLogic, the couple own at least eight properties either in their names or through companies Smith controls. RealEstate.com reports that the couple have homes across Sydney, Queensland and New York, with the total value of these properties hitting a staggering £6.9million ($9.235m).

Speaking about venturing into property investment with Smith – who signed for Cardiff-based The Hundred team Welsh Fire this year – Willis revealed to News Corp in 2024: “Steve and I have always loved New York and we first looked at buying a place over there in 2017. And then we weren’t in any hurry, we just wanted to buy the right place.

“It’s just the energy drew us to New York and then you have the added benefits of just being able to go about life. Australia is always home. When you touch down or come back you’ve had a whole life here, so Australia is always inherently home but New York is just our base now.”

Smith appears to have developed a fondness for Sydney’s Balmain suburb, with half of his properties located there. The remainder are scattered across Australia, including Marrickville, Coogee, San Souci and Toowoomba in Queensland.

Highlighting the couple’s affection for New York, Willis added: “It’s such an incredible atmosphere in New York, it’s the melting pot of so many different people all crammed into this tiny little island all crammed on top of one another.

“After you’ve been there for a while you get immune to the craziness of it and nothing really shocks you anymore.”

Smith is determined to maintain Australia’s recent dominance in The Ashes, and Willis will be among those supporting him from the sidelines as the contest unfolds during a tour of their homeland. Amid rumours about how long the 36-year-old will continue to play cricket, Willis confessed last year that they weren’t looking too far ahead.

She said: “We always like to live in the moment and I think that’s really important because we’ve been doing this for a very long time now. You deal with the here and now or whatever the next tour is that you have coming up. You try not to look too far into the future, you try to take it day by day and tour by tour.

“If you’re worrying about some tour that is in six months’ time, how can you be fully present and give your best now? We’ve always just tried to do things in the moment.”
