- Nitin Kumar is a professional darts player from India who competes in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) circuit. He was born in the city of Chennai and identifies Coimbatore as his hometown.
- Known by the nickname “The Royal Bengal”, he is currently one of India’s most prominent figures in the world of professional darts. He has been playing the sport for roughly 30 years, having first picked up a set of darts at the age of ten.
- In terms of his ranking, he has historically been India’s number one player and currently holds a place on the PDC Order of Merit. His ranking is primarily bolstered by his consistent appearances in major international qualifying events.
- One of his greatest achievements occurred this week at Ally Pally. He made history by becoming the first Indian player ever to win a match in the World Darts Championship.
- Beyond this historic win, he has represented India multiple times at the PDC World Cup of Darts. He also secured a title on the PDC Asian Tour in 2023 and won the Mongolian Open in 2024.
- Although he is from India, he currently lives in Dubai. He moved there as a child with his family and has spent a large portion of his life residing and training in the Middle East.
- His move to Dubai was originally due to his parents’ relocation, and he has continued to stay there while pursuing his sporting career. The region has a competitive darts scene that helped him hone his skills before he turned professional.
- Regarding his employment, Nitin has described darts as a way of making a living and officially turned professional in 2016. While he previously viewed the sport as a hobby, he now treats it as his primary career and puts in the necessary work to compete at the highest level.
- His next opponent at the 2026 World Darts Championship is the world number four, Stephen Bunting. The match is a highly anticipated second-round encounter following Kumar’s emotional five-set victory over Richard Veenstra.
- This upcoming match against Bunting, known as “The Bullet”, represents one of the biggest challenges of Kumar’s career to date. He will be looking to cause another massive upset at “Ally Pally” to continue his historic run in the competition.
