Man Utd gearing up for Real Madrid transfer battle for ‘next Toni Kroos’

Manchester United are on the hunt for a new manager but the Red Devils are also looking to add one of Europe’s most promising young players to their squad ahead of next season
Manchester United are among the sides to have expressed interest in German wonderkid Kennet Eichhorn ahead of the summer. The 16-year-old has caught the eye with 2. Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin this season.
Before suffering an ankle injury, he had managed to establish himself as a key player with the club, netting his first goal in a German Cup win against Kaiserslauten back in December.
Eichhorn’s performances have seemingly been good enough to see a number of Europe’s biggest clubs sit up and take notice. According to Bild, United are lining up to sign the teenager but face competition from a number of clubs.
Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all interested, while Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are all admirers. Real are particularly interested, with the Spanish side seeing him as a potential long-term successor to compatriot Toni Kroos.

Eichhorn reportedly has a €10-12m (£8.6m-£10.4m) release clause written into his current deal with Hertha, which might make him even more desirable. The midfielder only signed his first professional deal with his current side in the summer.
Speaking after he put pen to paper, he said: “I’ve been with Hertha since the U9s and have always been happy here. It’s incredibly important to me that my development never stops, in any aspect. That’s why I see Hertha as the best place for me.”
Hertha defender Toni Leistner also appears to be a big fan. Speaking earlier this season, he said: “It’s unbelievable what the boy can do. He’s mentally very focused with no airs or graces. I’m sure Hertha are going to have a lot of fun with him.”

While United will be keeping a keen eye on Eichhorn for the remainder of the campaign, club chiefs have a decision to make on the position of manager first. Michael Carrick signed a contract until the end of the season to replace Ruben Amorim.
But he has had an excellent impact at Old Trafford, having lifted United into the Champions League places with a run of five games without defeat – four of those being wins.
The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, with Brazil star Casemiro having announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.
