BetMGM Rolls Out Football Season Betting Upgrades
BetMGM has introduced a broad set of product updates and promotional offerings timed to the start of the 2026-27 football season, the sports betting and iGaming operator announced Tuesday. The rollout includes new betting protections, pricing tools, loyalty perks and in-person events aimed at deepening engagement with bettors throughout the season.
Among the additions is “BetDefense,” a feature offering first-quarter injury protection on eligible professional football player prop wagers. Under the program, customers who placed a bet on a player who is sidelined by injury during the opening quarter of a game will have their stake returned in cash, though the company noted the offer is not available in Alberta, Massachusetts, Ontario or Puerto Rico. The company also launched “Legendary Thursdays,” which will provide bonuses and special odds tied to Thursday night football matchups each week.
Other updates include “Odds Flash,” which gives users access to premium spread pricing on college and professional football along with real-time alerts when odds shift, and an expanded Cash Out function that lets bettors settle eligible wagers before a game’s outcome is final. BetMGM also introduced “Ultimate Teams,” a free-to-play game in which eligible customers can log in on weekdays to reveal digital cards for a chance at prizes, including a share of a weekly $50,000 bonus bets pool. New customers, meanwhile, are being offered up to $1,500 in bonus bets if their first wager does not win, though that offer excludes several states including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada.
The company said it also made behind-the-scenes performance upgrades intended to speed up page loads and improve responsiveness during live betting. Beyond the sportsbook, BetMGM is extending football-themed promotions to its online casino, including live dealer games and roughly 20 team-branded casino titles depending on jurisdiction. The operator’s loyalty program, BetMGM Rewards, has also been updated with a new “Rewards Hub” designed to help customers track tier status and manage benefits across the platform. On the physical side, BetMGM pointed to experiences such as a new Tailgate Beach Club at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and free-to-enter Survivor and Pick’Em contests at select retail sportsbooks nationwide.
The announcement arrives as legal sports betting continues to expand across the United States, with football remaining the single biggest driver of wagering volume each year. Operators have increasingly competed not just on odds and bonuses but on app performance, in-game betting speed and loyalty ecosystems that tie digital wagering to real-world rewards such as travel and entertainment. That shift reflects a maturing market in which customer retention, rather than simple customer acquisition, has become a central competitive battleground.
Industry analysts have also noted growing scrutiny of promotional offers and injury-related prop bets, prompting operators to build in safeguards such as partial refunds or protections tied to specific in-game outcomes. At the same time, responsible gambling messaging has become a standard component of major sportsbook marketing, particularly as regulators in various states push operators to demonstrate consumer protection commitments alongside aggressive promotional campaigns.
BetMGM said it is currently available in 31 markets through a combination of mobile and retail operations. The company also highlighted a joint commitment of $320,000 with MGM Resorts International toward responsible gambling initiatives, including expanded GameSense messaging across its digital platforms and partner sports venues.
According to a company announcement distributed via PR Newswire, the new features are intended to give customers more value, more engagement opportunities and more meaningful rewards throughout the football season.
