British Airways and Viva Announce Codeshare Linking London to 13 Mexican Destinations
British Airways and Mexico's Viva announced a codeshare on 3 November 2026. Travel begins 28 March 2027, and connections run through Mexico City and Cancún.
British Airways and the Mexican low-cost carrier Viva announced a codeshare agreement on 3 November 2026. It lets British Airways customers book connecting trips to 13 Viva-served destinations in Mexico.
Connections run through Mexico City and Cancún. Flights under the agreement start on 28 March 2027, and the itineraries can already be booked on the British Airways website, according to Travel Weekly and Aviación al Día.
The deal pairs British Airways’ global network with Viva’s Mexican domestic one. Viva flies the Mexican legs, and British Airways sells them alongside its own services.
What travellers can book
Under the agreement, British Airways sells seats on flights that Viva operates. Passengers can manage their entire journey under a single transaction.
Viva flies the Mexican domestic legs. The tickets are sold through British Airways channels, with London as the origin or final destination, according to Aviación al Día.
From Mexico City, the connecting destinations are Guadalajara, Veracruz, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Cancún, Mérida, San José del Cabo, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Puerto Vallarta and Tijuana.
From Cancún, the connections are Veracruz, León, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro, Chihuahua and Tijuana.
The two lists together cover 13 destinations.
Key dates
The codeshare was announced on 3 November 2026, and travel under the codeshare is scheduled to begin on 28 March 2027, with booking already open on the British Airways website.
What it means for readers
For travellers heading to Mexico from London, the agreement adds domestic destinations beyond the two hub airports. Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are on the list, as are cities such as Monterrey, Guadalajara and Oaxaca.
El Universal reported that the alliance will bring more Mexican destinations within reach of European travellers and contributes to tourism and economic activity in several Mexican cities.
The traffic also runs the other way. Passengers in Mexico can fly Viva to Mexico City or Cancún and continue on a British Airways flight to Europe on the same ticket, El Universal reported.
Aviación al Día says passengers starting in Mexico gain onward connections in London to British Airways’ network of more than 200 international destinations.
Members of The British Airways Club will be eligible to earn Avios and tier points on the codeshare routes, according to Aviación al Día. The announcement does not give the earning rates.
Who Viva is
Viva is an ultra-low-cost carrier based in Mexico. Aviación al Día says it has carried more than 180 million passengers in a history of about 20 years.
Viva operates 110 Airbus A320 and A321 family aircraft, according to Travel Weekly and Aviación al Día.
Aviación al Día says it serves more than 60 destinations across Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba. The same report says the airline has a policy called “Flex-SI-bility” covering flight changes and ticket transfers.
The reports give no financial terms for the codeshare and no flight frequencies.
Passengers can manage their entire journey under a single transaction.
What the airlines said
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ chief planning and strategy officer, said the agreement brings together Viva’s domestic network and the airline’s global connectivity, Travel Weekly reported. He said it makes travel between Mexico, London and the wider network easier for customers.
Chernoff noted that Mexico has been part of the British Airways network for more than 60 years. Travel Weekly quotes him saying the agreement marks a new moment in that long history, and El Universal quotes him calling it a milestone. Aviación al Día quotes him as saying British Airways is “delighted” to launch the partnership.
Javier Suárez, Viva’s executive vice-president, said that linking British Airways services with Viva’s Mexico City and Cancún network lets British Airways customers reach many more Mexican destinations. Passengers on Viva’s network can connect through the two hubs to British Airways flights to Europe and beyond on a single ticket, he said, according to Travel Weekly.
El Universal adds that Suárez described the link as letting Mexican travellers make a short stop in Mexico City or Cancún before flying to Europe.
What happens next
As of 5 November 2026, travel under the codeshare is scheduled to begin on 28 March 2027. Itineraries are open for booking on the British Airways website.
El Universal reports that tickets for flights to Mexico from that date can already be bought through British Airways’ official platforms.
