Manuel Ugarte plan emerges as PSG star eyed for next Man Utd boss

Manchester United could trigger one January transfer exit under their new interim boss and a new wide attacker is being identified ahead of the 2026/27 season

Manchester United’s first game after Ruben Amorim’s sacking produced the same old problems as they drew to Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Benjamin Sekso scored twice in Darren Fletcher’s first game in interim charge at Turf Moor before Jaidon Anthony levelled the scoring. Despite Shea Lacey smashing the crossbar, United were unable to find a winner to maintain their grip on the Champions League places.

It remains to be seen whether Fletcher will take charge of Sunday’s FA Cup game with Brighton. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick held further talks yesterday regarding the interim head coach position for the remainder of the season.

Despite all the noise surrounding the hotseat at Old Trafford, United continue to be linked with new players. Here, The Manchester Evening News brings you news of a new attacking target and one player who could depart on loan this month…

Barcola now summer target

United are, reportedly, one of the teams eyeing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola ahead of a crucial period in his future. The French forward is a contender to leave the European champions, with L’Equipe claiming that he could be a ‘real topic’ at the end of the season.

Yan Diomande, who has been linked with United, is reportedly on PSG’s radar to replace Barcola. Now, TEAMtalk has claimed United are one of the teams competing with Liverpool to sign the forward, though they face paying £87million to sign him.

There’s also the possibility that Marcus Rashford could be involved in the deal, with it previously reported that he could be involved in a swap offer if Barcelona do not sign him on a permanent basis.

‘Serious’ Ugarte plan emerges

Ajax have identified Manuel Ugarte as a possible No.6 signing this month, according to Dutch outlet VI. The report claims the Uruguay international is open to a move to Amsterdam after struggling to adapt to the Premier League.

The Dutch side are keen to bring Ugarte on loan for the rest of the season. However, his reported £120,000-per-week salary is set to be an issue, with United facing the prospect of a compromise on the percentage Ajax pays.

Ugarte started United’s Premier League clash at Burnley – alongside Casemiro.
