The aircraft crashed on the bank of the Seti River between the old airport and the new airport.
At least five Indians were on board the Yeti Airlines plane that crashed in Nepal’s Pokhara this morning, news agency ANI reported quoting the airport authority. The Nepalese passenger plane carrying 72 people, including 10 foreigners, crashed into a river gorge while landing at the airport in Pokhara — a major tourist destination in the Himalayan nation.
The twin-engine ATR 72 aircraft operated by Yeti Airlines was en route from Nepal’s capital Kathmandu.
At least 32 bodies have been recovered from the accident site, according to local media.
According to Tek Bahadur KC, Chief District Officer of the Kaski district, the plane crashed into the Seti river gorge. Rescue operations are currently being conducted, he was quoted as saying by The Himalayan Times newspaper.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia condoled the loss of lives in the plane crash.
“The loss of lives in a tragic plane crash in Nepal is extremely unfortunate. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the bereaved. Om Shanti,” tweeted Mr Scindia.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the aircraft took off from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport at 10.33 am and crash-landed at the airport in Pokhara.
