Brewers Rally From Four Runs Down to Take 2-0 World Series Lead Over Rays

The Milwaukee Brewers rallied from four runs down to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at American Family Field in Milwaukee. The win gives the Brewers a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, according to ESPN and The Globe and Mail.

As of Oct. 25, Milwaukee has won both games and needs two more victories to take the title. The Brewers won Game 1 3-2 on Friday, Oct. 23. A title would be the franchise’s first, according to ESPN. Game 3 is set for Monday, Oct. 26, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

How Milwaukee Erased a Four-Run Deficit

Tampa Bay scored four runs in the first inning off Brewers starter Logan Henderson, who was working on 11 days’ rest, according to The Globe and Mail. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero drove in runs with singles, and Liam Hicks hit a two-run homer. The Globe and Mail reports the Rays led 4-0 after one inning.

Milwaukee answered over the next innings. In the sixth, Sal Frelick hit a solo homer off Rays reliever Ian Seymour, a 92 mph fastball over the center-field wall, to tie the game 4-4, ESPN reports. William Contreras went 2-for-5 with an RBI, according to Bleacher Report’s box score.

Seymour had been brought in to start that inning. Frelick had hit four regular-season home runs, and his last against a left-hander came on Opening Day, according to ESPN.

In the seventh, Brice Turang doubled and advanced on Garrett Mitchell’s fly ball. Cooper Pratt’s single then scored Turang for a 5-4 lead, according to The Globe and Mail.

Abner Uribe pitched 1⅓ hitless innings for the win, and Aaron Ashby pitched the ninth. The comeback was Milwaukee’s second from a four-run deficit this postseason, according to The Globe and Mail.

Brewers’ Regular-Season Record
The Brewers finished the 2026 regular season at 103-59, MLB’s best record, and hold home-field advantage over the Rays (98-64), according to NBC Washington.

Box Score Lines and a Disputed Ninth-Inning Call

Bleacher Report’s box score lists Frelick with two hits, including the homer, and one RBI. Bleacher Report’s game story calls it Milwaukee’s first home run of the Series. Hicks had two RBI for Tampa Bay. Rays starter Drew Rasmussen allowed six hits and three earned runs in 3⅔ innings, and Henderson allowed three earned runs in three innings for Milwaukee. The Globe and Mail counts four runs against Henderson, three of them earned.

In the ninth, Jonny DeLuca led off with a double to put the tying run in scoring position. With two outs and DeLuca on third, Yandy Díaz worked a 3-2 count. The first-base umpire ruled that Díaz did not check his swing, and the game ended.

Yahoo Sports reports that the call could have gone either way. Bleacher Report reports that Aaron Ashby struck out Díaz to end the game.

What Pratt, Frelick and Cash Said

Pratt told The Globe and Mail that the Brewers believe they have a chance as long as innings remain. Frelick said Milwaukee’s offensive approach does not change with nine innings left.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Rasmussen was not as sharp as he has been for quite some time, according to The Globe and Mail. Rasmussen had an extra day of rest before the start, the Globe reports.

Milwaukee has won both games and needs two more victories to take the title.

Why Milwaukee Is Favored and What Comes Next

The Brewers finished the regular season 103-59, MLB’s best record, which gives them home-field advantage. The Rays finished 98-64. NBC Washington reports that the top-seeded Rays beat the No. 2 Cleveland Guardians in six games to win the ALCS.

The series is best-of-seven and uses a 2-3-2 format. According to NBC Washington, the higher seed hosts Games 1 and 2, along with Games 6 and 7 if necessary, and the lower seed hosts Games 3 and 4, along with Game 5 if necessary.

ESPN reports, citing Bradford Doolittle, that the past 13 teams to take a 2-0 World Series lead have won the championship. The Globe and Mail reports that 46 of the 57 teams that previously took a 2-0 lead went on to win.

MLB’s schedule lists Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 26, Game 4 on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Game 5 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, if needed, as Brewers at Rays, all at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Games 6 and 7, if needed, are listed as Rays at Brewers for Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31. MLB says the schedule is subject to change.
