Advice | Carolyn Hax: Is it ‘charming’ to stage a surprise wedding at a family reunion?

Dear Carolyn: My extended family is large and geographically spread out. All of us do not get together very often.

This summer, we have a family reunion planned at a national park that is driving distance from my fiancé’s parents. His family is very small: 12 people. A lot of our friends and family have gotten married recently, and the weddings are taking on a life of their own. We want to avoid that.
