Canadian man murdered in Jamaica, head partially severed

Police are investigating after a Canadian citizen was found brutally murdered in Falmouth, the capital city of Jamaica’s Trelawny Parish.
According to local media reports, the decomposing body of 62-year-old Norman “Andre” White was discovered in his home by local residents, who then alerted police.

White was reportedly found with his hands bound and his head partially severed.

The incident has left the parish shaken. “That is a very wicked act,” a resident, who was identified as Marvia, told the Jamaica Observer. “No one is safe. We have attacks on the young, old, anyone. We need divine intervention.”

The report notes that Trelawny, which is home to about 75,000 people, has seen an increase in homicides this year. Eight murders have been recorded so far in 2024, up from four last year.

In October, the body of Toronto resident Merrick Aries was found partially decomposed in bushes in Clarendon, a popular tourist area.
Aries, 43, has been shot multiple times in the head and upper body and investigators believe he was the victim of a robbery ambush. His rental car was also discovered in the area.
Alongside his brother, Aries was the co-owner of The Diner’s Corner, a Jamaican restaurant in downtown Toronto.

In May 2023, a 28-year-old Toronto woman, Jaeda Pauline Whitehead, was also found unresponsive in Clarendon, and was later pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
Police charged Whitehead’s husband, Rory Palmer, with murder.
The Canadian government suggests Canadians “exercise a high degree of caution” when travelling to the island country.
“Violent crime, including armed robbery and murder, is a problem in large cities and tourist areas, including parts of Kingston and Montego Bay, despite the presence of police to counter criminal activity,” notes a travel advisory.
