Curtis Jones warns Liverpool team-mates over worrying trend before Arsenal clash
Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw at Fulham on Sunday despite taking the lead in stoppage time, as Arne Slot’s side dropped more points ahead of their crunch game against Arsenal
Liverpool star Curtis Jones has told his team-mates that they can’t keep throwing away leads after their familiar frailty reared its head against Fulham. The Reds were leading 2-1 at Craven Cottage with a matter of seconds remaining, but only went home with a point after Harrison Reed’s stunning 97th-minute equaliser.
It marked the third time this season that Liverpool have conceded a late goal and dropped points away from home, including twice in the capital. Arne Slot’s side were on for draws at both Crystal Palace and Chelsea before they were breached in the dying embers.
They did the same last month at Leeds, who snatched a point in stoppage time. Liverpool will be desperate to avoid another late collapse when they return to London on Thursday, facing Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Jones, 24, warned in his post-match interview with club media: “If you’re giving away a lead, especially at a time like this when we need all our points, it’s always hard.
“I definitely think it was a better game all round than the Leeds game [last week], 100 per cent. But as I said, we always want to come away with all three points; that’s what we’ll always try.

“It doesn’t matter if we’re playing against any team away, for the talent on the pitch and things like that, I feel like we should go and win games like that.”
The midfielder also revealed that there were some choice words in the dressing room at half-time. “In the first half, we had the ball a lot. We tried and it didn’t come off as much,” Jones added.
“At half-time, we spoke about that we’ve got to show more heart and things like that. That’s what we went and did. We came back with two goals, and then they go and score a goal like that. It’s hard to take.”

The draw keeps Liverpool in the Champions League places but 14 points adrift of Arsenal. Defeat at the Emirates would almost certainly put an end to their title hopes, as they’re also eight points behind fellow challengers Aston Villa and Manchester City after 20 games.
Liverpool will shift their focus to the FA Cup once the Arsenal game is out of the way. The Reds host Barnsley in the third round and Slot will have the opportunity to rest key players during a hectic period in the season which sees them take part in three competitions.
