Dutch media pile in on Arne Slot and Liverpool after PSV humiliation
The Dutch media rub salt into Arne Slot’s wounds after Liverpool’s alarming defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League
The Dutch press didn’t go easy on Arne Slot after Liverpool’s season hit a desperate new low against PSV Eindhoven. Just months after guiding the Reds to Premier League glory and a lavish summer of spending, the team is now in the throes of a full-blown crisis.
Sitting 12th in the Premier League and 13th in the Champions League standings, the last two months have seen a series of dire results, heaping immense pressure on Slot. The campaign hit rock bottom when PSV handed them a 4-1 thrashing at Anfield.
There was no glossing over the result, with even Curtis Jones confessing the team was “in the s***” after suffering their ninth loss in 12 games. The match, and particularly the result, made headlines in the Netherlands.
Omroep Brabant reported that PSV had “made mincemeat” of Liverpool. The outlet said: “PSV emerged fresh from the dressing room for the second half. The Liverpool storm seemed to have subsided. Even after the 1-2, PSV still had plenty to do.
“A remarkable achievement; the Eindhoven fans won’t be sleeping any time soon. Thanks to this victory, a Champions League winter break suddenly seems quite realistic for Peter Bosz’s team.”

Dutch News reported that Slot’s side had “crumbled” under PSV’s “second-half blitz.” Meanwhile, Eindhoven’s Dagblad described it as a “big win at a struggling Liverpool” and a “magical November evening in 2025.”
Dutch publication De Telegraaf described PSV as “too strong” for Liverpool, noting: “PSV immediately put pressure on Liverpool’s defence, where many English teams now dig in when visiting Anfield.”
Their match reporter observed: “The away fans went wild with joy, drowning out the hushed Liverpool crowd.”
The newspaper also quoted Bosz making pointed remarks about Slot’s increasingly difficult situation. He said: “I’m here with a good feeling; it’s nice to be a coach now.
“When you’re on the other side, it’s not as good. I’ve experienced that too. Every coach will experience it at some point.”
Bosz conceded he had dismissed any chance of taking points from Anfield when the draw was made, admitting: “When I saw the draw, I thought: we can get points, but not at Liverpool. Of course, a lot has changed. Liverpool is going through a difficult period.”
Discussing his team’s early goal from the penalty spot, he added: “You know they don’t have much confidence. A quick goal like that doesn’t improve that, even though we did have to pull out all the stops at times in the first half.”
