England vs Ghana LIVE score and goal updates with Three Lions struggling
This was painful as England’s second game curse threatened to strike again.
England looked sluggish, flat and very short of ideas.
After the glorious opening win over Croatia, we had every right to get excited – and expect a similar performance against Ghana.
Instead, we got a very slow, laboured performance in which England struggled to find a way past Ghana’s low defensive block.
Let’s not complain about deep defending and negativity. It was down to England to break them down and they needed to move the ball quicker, find more space and openings.
Ghana soaked up the pressure while Harry Kane barely saw the ball. He got little support as Anthony Gordon was poor, Noni Madueke wasted crossing opportunities and Jude Bellingham tried to do a little bit too much.
Ghana were disciplined and strong in defence but England also had a tendency to run down blind alleys and were crowded out.
England have not won the opening two games in a major tournament since Russia in 2018 and they will have to be a lot better in the second half to make sure they do not get pegged back again.
