Henderson interrupts TV interview to lead Crystal Palace fans in sweary chant

Crystal Palace reached the semi finals of the Conference League with victory over Fiorentina and England goalkeeper Dean Henderson could not resist getting involved with supporters

Crystal Palace star Dean Henderson went from goalkeeper to conductor after leading fans in an X-rated chant following his side’s win against Fiorentina. The Eagles reached the semi-finals of the Conference League on Thursday evening with an aggregate victory over the Serie A side.

Despite losing 2-1 on the night, their 3-0 win at Selhurst Park saw them book their place in the last four. Henderson was interviewed by TNT Sports after the game but and could not resist getting involved in the celebrations of supporters.

During his interview, fans could be heard chanting ‘Deano, give us as song’. Henderson obliged as he asked for a second before breaking into a verse of Shakira‘s 2010 World Cup anthem Waka Waka.

The song continued: “12th again, who gives a f***, we won the FA Cup.” As Henderson returned to the interview, the reporter replied: “You’re just conducting the orchestra. Listen, you can go on and win this, can’t you?”

The Palace man replied: “Of course, yeah. That’s what the aim is. The togetherness in this group [at the] business end of the season. We come together.”

On Palace’s win, Henderson added: “This is unbelievable. Obviously for this football club it’s sensational really, when you think obviously about the FA Cup last year, and then to keep going, to write a new chapter in the book, it’s phenomenal.

“(The fans) have stuck by us in the difficult times this season, and hopefully we can go and deliver something really special.

“It was a tough game. It was very tough. You don’t really know how it will go, 3-0 is a dangerous scoreline, and we’ve managed to get through, so who cares?

“Of course the aim is to go and win it, that’s what the aim is. We have togetherness in this group. So at the business end of the season, we come together and we go (forward).”

Palace will now look forward to a semi final clash against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. The first leg will take place at the end of the month in Krakow due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The return leg is scheduled for May 7 at Selhurst Park. Meanwhile, Spanish side Rayo Vallecano will take on Strasbourg in the other semi-final, with the final set to take place on 27 May in Leipzig.

Palace in the meantime will be aiming to round off their final Premier League season under Oliver Glasner in a positive way. They currently sit 13th but are just six points behind sixth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand.
