Jake Paul & fiancee Jutta Leerdam in tears as she breaks Winter Olympics record

Netherlands speed skating star Jutta Leerdam won gold in the Women’s 1000m at the Winter Olympics in Milan with a world record time of 1:12.31, as her emotional fiancé Jake Paul watched from the crowd

Jutta Leerdam and Jake Paul were overcome with emotion as the Dutch speed skater clinched gold in the Women’s 1000m at the Winter Olympics.

The 27-year-old, who is engaged to YouTube star turned boxing sensation Paul, was a hot favourite for a medal going into Monday’s final at the Milan venue. With her fiancé cheering her on from the sidelines, Leerdam delivered an outstanding performance on the ice, securing her first Olympic Gold with a world record time of 1:12.31.

Her compatriot Femke Kok took silver with 1:12.59, while Miho Tagaki, the 2022 Olympic record holder for this event, bagged bronze with 1:13.95.

Upon crossing the finish line in pole position, an emotional Leerdam removed her glasses and pulled down her suit, tears welling up in her eyes as she took in the magnitude of her achievement.

Cameras then cut to a tearful Paul in the crowd, visibly moved as he watched his future wife outperform fierce competition to win gold at her second Olympic Games.

Leerdam previously won silver in the Women’s 1000m in Beijing four years ago, narrowly missing out on gold to Tagaki, with Brittany Bowe taking the bronze.

However, this time around, Leerdam managed to go one step further.

Leerdam and Paul made their relationship Instagram official in 2023, with Leerdam regularly seen supporting him at his boxing matches.

The couple got engaged in March 2025.

She’s also been incredibly supportive of his transition into boxing, penning this on Instagram : “You inspire me so much with your work ethic, the way you think big, and your crazy determination. You are special @jakepaul. My champion.”

As a five-time world champion, Leerdam is scheduled to compete in the 500m next Sunday. She’ll be aiming to secure her second Olympic Gold.
