Meryl Streep Had the Best Reaction to Being Compared to a Jockstrap at 2024 Emmys – E! Online
The devil wears Prada, not a jockstrap.
Meryl Streep was unexpectedly the subject of a cheeky joke at the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sept. 15, and she took it in stride.
When It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia costars Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney, who are married to one another, took the stage to present the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series—for which Streep, 75, was nominated—they started riffing about the meaning of the category.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to honor the comedic performances that hold everything in place,” McElhenney started. “They show crucial support when it’s really needed.”
Olson deadpanned, “Much like a jockstrap. What you were describing sounds very much like a jockstrap.”
Her husband feigned ignorance in response before giving into the comparison, saying, “No it doesn’t! … These roles make sure everything stays secure, without this support the whole package falls apart… alright, this does sound like a jockstrap.”
