Olympian Gabby Thomas Engaged to Spencer McManes – E! Online

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas is adding some new sparkle to her collection.

The track and field star shared that she is engaged to longtime boyfriend, Spencer McManes, after over two years of dating. Spencer—a former Yale football player—popped the question during a staycation in Austin, Texas, which Gabby thought was simply a getaway before her track season began. However, he rented an Airbnb and decorated the roof with flowers for the special moment.

“That’s when I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, this is happening,’” she told Vogue in an interview published March 25. “Normally he’s very bad with surprises—and this was the one surprise I think I’ve ever witnessed him keep.” 

Before Spencer and Gabby began dating in 2022, they were technically rivals, at the time, as Gabby had been a Harvard athlete.

And the couple’s story of how they met was only slightly cheesy.

When Gabby, who knew of Spencer from mutual friends, came across his Instagram, something stood out to her—his series of pizza reviews.
