Premier League side left ‘furious’ with PGMOL amid violent conduct complaint
Nottingham Forest chiefs were left ‘furious’ over a coming together in their defeat at Everton, which involved both James Tarkowski and Dan Ndoye – with a complaint made to the PGMOL over the officiating.
Nottingham Forest have launched a fresh complaint to PGMOL over an incident in their showdown with Everton – according to reports. Sky Sports claim that the East Midlands club are set to speak to the refereeing body about a coming together between James Tarkowski and Dan Ndoye.
The Forest forward was, seemingly, caught by the Toffees defender in a challenge made off the ball around the 11th minute of the match. Tarkowski’s shoulder barge went unpunished for that coming together, but the higher-ups for the Reds are clearly unhappy with the situation.
Sky Sports indicate that the hierarchy have been left “furious” over the decision, claiming that there was violent conduct shown in the challenge. It’s not the first time that Nottingham Forest have felt aggrieved with decisions made by referees during their spell in the Premier League.
Sean Dyche hinted at his own frustration at refereeing when speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day. He said: “We were nowhere near it on the physical side. We had the ball in many places, but decisions go against us.
“Also, [James] Tarkowski barges a player in the back – and nothing is done – which is a strange decision. But they looked like a team that’s going fifth in the Premier League. Today we were miles off.”
It remains to be seen what Nottingham Forest will hear back from PGMOL, but it isn’t the first time they have made complaints to the referee chiefs. The club famously hit out at the decision to have Stuart Attwell as the VAR in post for their game against Everton incidentally, back in April 2024, with the match official being criticised by them at for supporting Luton Town – who were also in a relegation scrap at the time.
There were a string of complaints made during the 2023/2024 season, as the club battled against the drop. There was also a measure to hire ex-referee, Mark Clattenburg, as their in-house consultant, as their disagreements with the match officials continued.
In the time since then, there have been fewer complaints made, though the latest incident comes as yet another flare up between the club and the referee calls against them. In all, it marked a frustrating day for ex-Everton boss Dyche, who returned to his old club in search of an important three points.
Nottingham Forest have seen an uplift under the new manager, but there is still a lack of consistency in some areas, which showed again at Everton. The Toffees took the lead through a Nikola Milenkovic own goal in the second minute of the game, before Thierno Barry ended his long wait for a goal – scoring just before half-time.
The Hill Dickinson Stadium was rocking, and so was the Nottingham Forest backline late in the game, as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall added a third in the final ten minutes of the fixture. It leaves Everton in fifth, just on the edge of a Champions League place, while Nottingham Forest slipped down to 17th – three points above the drop zone, but with a game-in-hand for West Ham just beneath them.
Next up for Forest is a trip to Utrecht in the Europa League, before they then welcome Tottenham to the City Ground. As for the Toffees, they have a clear midweek, before they travel to the capital to take on Chelsea, who have struggled in the games since their impressive draw with rivals Arsenal.
