Tyson Fury’s brother admits to doubts about fighter’s comeback
The ‘Gypsy King’ remains eager to make a return to the ring despite announcing his retirement last year after back-to-back to Oleksandr Usyk
Tyson Fury‘s brother Shane has admitted the former world champion’s best days could be behind him.
The former two-time heavyweight world champion announced his retirement last January, just weeks after losing to long-time adversary Oleksandr Usyk for a second time. Six months later, though, the 37-year-old performed a drastic U-turn, expressing his desire to make a 2026 return.
Fury has been spotted honing in on his skills over in Thailand since the turn of the new year. The Morecambe scrapper’s manager Spencer Brown recently revealed that his star client is targeting three fights this year – something he has not done in eight years. In a perfect world, Fury will have a tune-up contest booked before the end of April, before chasing a huge fight in the summer.
With news of Fury’s return going viral on social media, many have offered their respective opinions on the matter, but none more arguably important than the Brit’s sibling, Shane.Speaking to Boxing King Media, he said: “Listen you look at Tyson, you wouldn’t think he would be able to fight at all would you, the shape of him.

“He’s got two love handles, skinny legs, bit of a belly and not the biggest top half. But he’s fit. You don’t meet many people thats stronger than him in the body. He’s talented and he’s got a heart the size of this place we’re in. It is what it is. Is Tyson’s best days behind him? I don’t know. We had a conversation beforehand. There was no signs of him declining in the last fight against the great fighter Usyk.”
Many have joined the queue to welcome the ‘Gypsy King’ back to the ring – with Russian powerhouse Arslanbek Makhmudov a top contender. The heavyweight behemoth has not fought since his points win over David Allen back in October. “There’s four or five different opponents we’re looking at, Fury’s manager recently revealed to Sky Sports.
“There’s a few that tweak our interest. We are really down the road with the contract. We’ve got a bit more work on it but we’re down the road and an announcement is imminent. You will see Tyson back in the ring and we’re looking and talking at various opponents at this very moment. We’re looking to get out in April.

“I’d say he [Makhmudov] is in top three or four, most definitely. We’re looking at five or six different opponents. That’s not for me to announce, that’s for the promoter to announce. Everybody is working hard to get this fight underway. That wouldn’t be my position to announce that but I can confirm he’s one of the three or four we are looking at very closely.”
While Fury is no doubt focused on his comeback, the 37-year-old seemingly has his eyes set on some major contests. Since his rematch defeat to Usyk, the ‘Gypsy King’ has long called for a trilogy fight with the Ukrainian. Fury was recently handed a slight boost in his pursuit of a third clash after Usyk revealed he would be open to facing the former two-time heavyweight champion again – as long as it’s for the undisputed title again.
The 39-year-old has not fought since knocking out Daniel Dubois in front of over 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, and is gearing up for a return to the ring at some point this year. During an interview with Ready to Fight, the Ukrainian is aiming for a big 2026 in the ring after revealing he will continue to fight for another two years. After he appeared disinterested in a third contest with his British rival, the Ukrainian has not closed the door on yet another meeting. “Why not, but only if it’s a fight for the undisputed status again,” he said.
