US: Wall St opens sharply higher on soft jobs data

Wall Street’s main indexes opened higher on Friday (May 3) after a softer-than-expected jobs report revived hopes of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates this year, while gains in Apple and Amgen on upbeat corporate updates added support.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 483.7 points, or 1.27 per cent, at the open to 38,709.36.

The S&P 500 rose 58.6 points, or 1.16 per cent, at the open to 5,122.78, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 306.5 points, or 1.94 per cent, to 16,147.482 at the opening bell. REUTERS
