World Cup LIVE: Lionel Messi breaks record as France get major weather update
By Jeremy Cross in Dallas, Texas.
THE AT&T Stadium is bouncing.
Having witnessed a piece of footballing history.
Lionel Messi’s first half strike against Austria saw him become the greatest goalscorer the World Cup has ever seen.
Overtaking Miroslav Klose, who had stuck his neck out and predicted this would happen.
It felt like a special moment. Like time stood still for a few seconds.
Messi has nothing left to prove when it comes to being the greatest.
But it was obvious the goal meant a lot to him.
Not least because his father Jorge Messi is battling ill health back in Argentina.
Some members of the Argentina press pack, who have had the privilege of covering a major part of Messi’s career no doubt, stood to applaud the goal when it happed.
