World Cup live – Ronaldo pays tribute to Jota after chaotic end vs Croatia

Portugal beat Croatia last night in a stoppage time 2-1 for Cristiano Ronaldo’s side.

Croatia’s Josko Gvardiol had an equaliser, in the 12th minute of added time, controversially disallowed by VAR.

The referee ruled that Matanovic had got the faintest of flicks before the ball found its way to Pasalic in an offside position.

Players, including Croatia icon Luka Modric, were seen crowding around the referee and desperately protesting the decision to rule out Gvardiol’s goal.

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic said in his post-match press conference: “I will not comment much about it but I will say the refereeing was very bad. VAR kills emotions, it kills everything within you. We have gone too far with VAR.”
